Nineteen years teaching French to children whose day happens in Chinese or English. It is a different job from teaching French in Paris, and it is the only one we know.
AEF was founded in Shanghai in 2016 by Morgan Kabiri, who had been building educational institutions in the city since 2007.
Morgan created three schools from the ground up — from the building itself to the curriculum. He was later asked, in Suzhou, to standardise teaching across fourteen schools belonging to the same group.
In 2016, his eldest son was taking French classes designed for French-speaking children. Morgan asked whether they could cover other subjects — maths, for instance — so that his son could understand in his own language what he was learning at his international school. The answer was categorical: no, only speaking and writing.
So Morgan designed the programme that was missing, built as a genuine education in French: literature, poetry, history, science. AEF started with seven pupils, in a borrowed room. Today it operates in Shanghai and Suzhou, and its camps take children as far as France, Australia and Canada.
Four audiences, one language taught.
A permanent team, not a pool of passing contractors.
Three commitments we act on, not three sentences on a wall.
We are currently collecting reviews from our families, in text, voice and video. They will appear here once read and authorised by the people who gave them — we would rather show an empty page than testimonials nobody wrote.
In text, voice or video. Nothing is published without your permission, and you can withdraw it at any time.
A level assessment is free, and a campus visit costs nothing but an appointment.
